The story

The fifth edition of Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here turned a familiar subject—light—towards what usually remains in the background: shadow. Six works by seven artists were selected from more than 400 submissions and placed so that visitors noticed not only the objects themselves, but their changing relationship with the museum around them.

Curator Sophie Mayuko Arni invited the artists to treat shadow as a medium in its own right. It became the trace of movement, the memory of a vanished image, or the threshold between the visible and the concealed. Beneath the dome, where the celebrated rain of light continually redraws the space, the idea acquired particular force.

The exhibition brought contemporary practice into conversation with the patterned screens of Arab mashrabiyas and Japanese shōji. It rewarded an unhurried visit: the same work could feel entirely different as the day advanced. The project was also linked to the Richard Mille Art Prize, whose winner was announced in December 2025.
