Ten bespoke scents offer a new way to experience works in the permanent collection.
New adult programme
Art in Scents approaches the collection through an unexpected sense: smell. Ten works have been paired with specially composed fragrances that evoke a material, place, atmosphere or historical world connected with each object.
Created by Louvre Abu Dhabi with fragrance house Givaudan and studio Magique, the trail comes with a specially designed book. Microencapsulation releases a scent when the visitor touches a page. It does not replace looking; it adds another layer, making the encounter more intimate and associative.
The museum’s signature fragrance, A Universal Breeze, also forms part of the experience. This leisurely adult programme will appeal to visitors willing to spend longer with a small number of works and allow memory and imagination to enter the gallery.
